"Strong training and a positive team culture, but limited activities and stretched staffing make the job mostly routine care."
At this inspection we found the service had made significant improvements in relation to governance practices and medicines management. Care records provided detailed guidance... The recording of medicines administration had also improved.
Staff spoke positively about working at the service... A staff member told us, 'We have daily and weekly meetings, we get information on what’s going on or if anyone has any issues, we’re working better as a team now.'
People told us they felt supported by staff and that there were sufficient staff available to support them. One person told us, ‘I do feel safe. There are plenty of staff around to ask if you have any questions.’
The registered manager promoted continuous learning, and this was evident for staff and people to see... secured levy transfers from NHS Trusts to support the nurse development programme... 2 qualified at Woodside Grange and a further 4 on programme.
Staff told us they felt supported by the registered manager and the management team, one staff member said, 'Things have turned around in the last year, we are more listened to and there’s an open-door policy which has made us feel more like a team rather than a hierarchy.'
People had access to activities and had links to the local community... One relative said, 'There isn’t many activities in the home, it would be great if [person] was out in the garden more, it's a lovely environment.'
Not many activities or creative programmes, so the job is mostly routine personal care like helping with washing, dressing and meals.
One relative said, 'There isn’t many activities in the home, it would be great if [person] was out in the garden more...'
Staffing is enough to meet basic needs and keep things safe, but not always enough for one-to-one time with people who have challenging behaviour.
One relative said, 'There’s not always enough staff to do one to one for those with challenging behaviour, but I feel they really care people and are trained well.'
