"Staff feel supported with low turnover, but out-of-date training, no supervision and unsafe recruitment hold it back."
People’s risks were not always identified or routinely monitored, or where they were being monitored records were poorly completed. For example, we found people’s food and fluid charts contained large gaps which meant they could not be relied upon.
Staff told us they felt supported. One staff member said, “I’m very happy here, there’s a low turnover of staff and some experienced staff who say it’s the best place they’ve worked.”
Staff told us there were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Staff were not always recruited safely. Following our last inspection, the provider sent us an action plan detailing how they would ensure staff were recruited safely. At this inspection we found not enough improvement had been made.
Some mandatory staff training was out of date, and there was no record of staff completing dementia training. One staff member said, “I wouldn’t say [training] is as frequent as it should be.” Staff hadn’t received any formal supervision.
The Registered Manager, who was also the Provider, had employed a manager to oversee the day to day running of the service. They had not implemented any formal governance process to ensure they retained full oversight of their legal responsibilities.
Whilst there were regular organised activities for people to take part in, outside of these times there was limited activities for people to engage with. One person told us they were, “bored, bored, bored.”
Training has gaps with out of date mandatory courses and no dementia training records, plus no formal supervision for staff.
