There was a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty... Good systems were in place to manage medicines, and work had been done to minimise the risk of errors. We observed staff administering medicines safely.

“I have worked in a few care homes and this is by far the best. The whole approach and feel of the place is how a home should be.” “I love coming to work. It is always a really nice atmosphere, and you can have a laugh and a joke with the residents, and it is really positive.”

Staff told us staffing levels were good. One staff member said, “The staffing is good here, there is always between 6 and 7 of us and if we are short a manager will come out and help.” In addition to the care team, there were dedicated ‘quality of life’ staff working seven days a week.

Managers have an open-door policy and are friendly. They all listen and are there for you. It’s really nice that they come out and help on the floor and they are not asking us to do anything they would not be willing to do themselves.

The provider implemented a model of relationship care... Staff were trained to monitor people’s outcomes using observations and dementia care mapping... created a salon experience... supported to go on a trip to the Moors to see the Shetland ponies.
