The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. Lessons were learnt to ensure risk was mitigated.
Staff told us they felt supported by the management team. One staff member said, “Managers are really supportive. Whatever we find difficult we tell the manager, and they sort everything out.” “My team is really good. We do a lot of teamwork.”
Although we noted no concerns with staffing levels during our visits, staff and people told us they would like more staff. One staff commented, “Numbers of staff is sometimes a concern. People don’t wait long for their needs to be met but we do feel busy.”
Staff confirmed they received an induction, training and regular checks on competency as well as supervision. Records we saw supported this. Staff were positive about the training and supervision they received. One staff told us, “The training is good... relates to the people we support.”
Staff told us management were approachable, and they felt comfortable speaking with them and raising concerns. Staff also said they felt supported by managers. Comments included, “Managers are supportive” and “I like working here. I like the level of support you get here.”
An activities team provide a varied range of onsite and offsite group and 1:1 activities for people living at Willowbeck. One person told us, “We go swimming, walking, tennis.” People were also supported... to run the onsite tuck shop.
