"Enough staff to support residents and lovely staff, but no permanent manager, poor training and safety risks hold it back."
We found 2 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment... Staff had not consistently protected people from risks... Medicines storage and management were not always safe... Staff had not always followed... safeguarding incidents.
Staff had limited opportunities to provide feedback, raise concerns... A person said, “Morale is very bad. Staff talk to me, they come in and vent.” A relative told us, “Some days morale’s not great. The staff are lovely but overworked.”
Staffing levels were satisfactory... enough staff on duty to support people and interact with them. However, staff had not had the training they needed to meet the care needs of all the people using the service.
Staff had not had the training they needed... only 8% of the staff had completed diabetes training, and only 10% had completed positive behaviour support training. No staff had Parkinson’s disease training.
At the time of our inspection there was no registered manager in post. Managers had not always followed the provider’s policies and procedures when safeguarding incidents occurred. Governance systems and audits were not always effective.
There was a lack of activities at the service and most people had nothing to do but watch television. The service’s activities co-ordinator had recently left... some people had the opportunity to go on a weekly minibus trip.
No permanent manager in place, so leadership oversight is weak and issues like safety risks go unnoticed.

Big gaps in staff training for key needs like diabetes, Parkinson's and behaviour support, leaving staff unprepared.

Safety problems like medications stored too hot and staff moving people in wheelchairs without footrests.
temperature in the medicines room exceeding 25 degrees on over 30 occasions... We saw 5 different people being moved in wheelchairs with no footrests
