Working at Westmeade

Risks to people's safety and wellbeing were identified... and control measures were in place... There were suitable arrangements for the safe storage, management and disposal of medicines and people were supported to take their medicines by trained staff.

Relatives and staff spoke warmly about the support and positive atmosphere within the home and with the acting manager. Staff said they worked as a team for the best outcome for the people living in the service.

Staff told us there were always enough staff to meet people's needs. One staff member said, 'We have all worked here for a while and we also work closely with another home in the group which is very close by so we can help each other out if necessary'.

Staff said training was good and appropriate... One staff member said, 'We get loads of training and are supported to take extra training it is really good'. The training manager confirmed all staff received formal induction and staff were encouraged to further their knowledge through ongoing training opportunities.

People told us they liked going out. One person said, 'We go out every day and I go to Purple stars'... People had been involved in meaningful activities, going out to clubs, shows, dancing, a 'pamper' session in Westmeade on a Tuesday.
