Comprehensive risk assessments were in place. People's individual risks were identified. Medicines were safely managed. Staff demonstrated an understanding of what might constitute abuse and knew how to report concerns.

Staff spoke positively about communication and how the management team worked well with them and encouraged their professional development. A staff member commented: 'The registered manager is very supportive. Any problem is dealt with quickly.'

Staff confirmed that people's needs were met promptly, and they felt there were sufficient numbers of staff on duty to meet people's needs.

Staff received training on a range of subjects including safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act, moving and positioning, dementia awareness and skin care. Staff had also completed nationally recognised qualifications including the Care Certificate.

Staff spoke positively about communication and how the registered manager worked well with them and encouraged an open culture. Staff felt able to raise concerns and were listened to.

People engaged in a variety of activities and spent time in the local community. For example, outside entertainers, armchair exercises and crosswords. The service had recently employed an activities coordinator who was due to start shortly.
