Working at Wellcross Grange Care Home

Staff had received training in how to keep people safe from abuse... Medicines were stored appropriately; safely administered and accurate records... Staff took appropriate action following accidents and incidents... Risks... identified and managed appropriately.

Staff commented they felt totally supported and had an excellent understanding of their roles... 'I like my job.' The service had a strong emphasis on team work... The provider regularly organised trips for staff to attractions... Staff felt it was well-led.

Feedback from people and staff was they felt the service had enough staff and our own observations supported this. Staffing levels were assessed daily... existing staff would be contacted to cover shifts... A relative told us, 'it's all the same staff, so [my relative] can build up the same relationships.'

Staff had received training... They've had the Parkinson's team come in and explain to staff... so they've all had Parkinson's training. Staff completed an induction... Systems of staff development including one to one supervision meetings and annual appraisals were in place.

Staff spoke extremely highly of the service and felt it was well-led. Leaders and the service culture they created drove and improved high-quality, person-centred care. One member of staff said, 'The [managers] really listen and do things. Whenever I ask anything, I get answer same day.'

'Music & Memory' / 'Music for Dementia' programme with local college... personalised playlists... reduced their anxieties and behaviours... resulting in a reduction of 'as required' medicines. Pets as therapy dog, therapy horse, intergenerational projects with schools, museum memory boxes.
