The registered manager made sure, where agency staff were used, they ensured consistency by block booking the same staff and obtained assurances they were not working in other care homes.

Training is standard with basics and some specialist topics like dementia, but no funded qualifications or career development paths.

There was a planned programme of training covering safe working practices and topics related to the needs of people who lived at the home. The service had a training matrix in place which showed most staff training was up to date.

Activities programme is regular with games, entertainers, volunteers and chats, but nothing innovative or specialist to vary the role much.

There were three scheduled activities each day which included games and puzzles and visits from external entertainers. Importantly, in addition, we saw staff spent time chatting with people... Volunteers were utilised from a local college.
