"Good training and a friendly atmosphere with supportive management, but unsafe medicines management and lack of activities are major concerns."
Medicines were not always managed and stored safely... The provider did not always assess risks to ensure people were safe... This was a breach of Regulation 12.
There was a friendly relaxed atmosphere at the home... A staff member said, 'The manager is amazing, I can approach her with anything.'
People and their relatives spoke highly of the staff team and most people felt there was enough staff. However, we noticed during the inspection the communal areas were unattended for some time.
Staff received an induction when they started their role and various training courses were available to staff... Training compliance rates were high in all areas.
Governance systems were in place but were not always effective. There was limited evidence of risks being identified or reduced and audits did not always identify concerns found during the inspection.
Concerns were raised about the lack of stimulation provided to people and the lack of activities provided... Some staff told us there was not always time to provide meaningful activity.
Medicines not stored or recorded safely with risks like overdoses from missing times and wrong stock counts, plus weak risk checks such as unsecured wardrobes.
Protocols were not always in place... Time specific medicines did not have the exact time recorded... The quantity of the medicines did not always match... wardrobes not being secure to the walls.
No proper activities programme or coordinator, just occasional volunteer crafts, music and a choir visit, so the role is mostly routine personal care.
Concerns were raised about the lack of stimulation provided to people and the lack of activities provided... a lady comes in and does crafts... They had a choir in recently.
Communal areas left unattended at times with one staff member starting without references checked, so shifts can feel stretched and recruitment is sloppy.
