"Supportive managers and positive staff culture, but low weekend staffing, inconsistent activities, and medicines errors like undated creams in rooms put people at risk."
We found that some gaps within medicine administration records (MARs)... creams and liquids were not always dated on opening on some units and some were stored in people’s rooms. This placed people at risk of receiving support with creams that had reduced effectiveness.
Staff spoke very positively about the registered manager... “They always have time to listen... We also have regular staff meetings which help everyone stay on the same page.”
People told us, and we observed, there were times communal lounges were left unattended for periods of time. People felt staffing levels were lower at weekends.
Staff were appropriately trained to meet people’s needs. Staff had good knowledge of medicines.
Staff spoke very positively about the registered manager and clinical lead, saying “They always have time to listen (even though I know they are extremely busy!).”
People did describe to us a differing experience across the 3 units when it came to staff spending time with them and activities. Some were very positive... others felt like staff did not always have time to get them out and about or to sit and chat with them.
