"Staff feel supported with good training, but safety issues around medicines and infection control, plus limited activities, hold it back."
We did identify some new issues in relation to medicines and infection control. Therefore, there is a continuing breach of safe care and treatment.
Staff spoken with during the inspection felt their work was manageable and that the provider supported them well.
People and relatives felt there were sufficient numbers of well-trained staff. Overall staff felt there were sufficient staff rostered, but they felt more staff were required for both the kitchen and housekeeping.
Staff said they felt supported in their role and were provided with supervision and both online and face-to-face training. Staff supervisions we saw had taken place but would benefit from being more frequent.
The provider had made changes to the management structure since the last inspection and leaders had been making the required improvements but needed further time.
Some people and relatives reported there was not enough to do, particularly at weekends. We saw there was a lack of social stimulation for some people.
Medication records have gaps and some areas like chairs or laundry bags aren't cleaned up quickly, so safety isn't reliable every day.
records were not available to provide assurance that the patches remained attached until they were replaced. We saw a person had an accident and although staff assisted them to change, the chair they were sat on was not then immediately cleaned.
Not enough activities especially at weekends, so the job involves a lot more sitting around than engaging people.
“There seems to be an awful lot of sitting around doing nothing, particularly at the weekends. It seems like everyone is just sat.”
Leaders are working on improvements but still have gaps in records and oversight, so management doesn't feel fully stable yet.
The service had not ensured regulatory requirements were fully met in relation to all aspects of record keeping. Processes for medicines did not identify all of our findings and oversight of the service failed to ensure care was provided to people that was person-centred.
