The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. During the assessment we identified 3 recent safeguarding incidents that had been referred to the Local Authority Safeguarding Team, but the provider had failed to notify the Care Quality Commission.
A staff member said, “I enjoy coming into work, doing my shifts, being able to make a difference to my residents’ lives and ensuring they have the right person-centred care.” Feedback received from people, relatives, staff and a health and social care professional about the service was complimentary and positive.
The registered manager determined staffing levels in line with people’s individual support needs. Throughout our site visit, staff were visible around the home and call bells were answered quickly. Other relatives discussed specific days when the home appeared short-staffed.
Staff received a comprehensive induction and regular training to ensure they had the skills and knowledge to support people effectively and safely. Staff felt supported in their roles and told us they received regular supervisions and appraisals.
Staff felt enabled to make suggestions and share views about the service and felt listened to. A staff member told us, “Our management team are amazing and very supportive. If you have any issues that need to be raised, they work immediately to resolve them.”
People were supported to spend time with their families and enjoyed a range of activities both in the local community and their home. People told us they enjoyed the activities such as quizzes, crafts and things that stimulate the brain. A relative said, “The activity coordinator is brilliant, and the activities are just great.”
Staffing levels are adequate overall but relatives noted some days feeling short staffed.
Other relatives discussed specific days when the home appeared short-staffed, which we fed back to the registered manager.
