Working at The Vale Residential Care Home

Risks to people were not being well managed. Risks relating to epilepsy management, choking and skin integrity had not always been managed safely. Systems... for safeguarding and incidents were not robust.

There was an extremely poor and a closed culture within the service. Staff fractions had caused a negative culture which relatives were aware of.

Staff, people and their loved ones told us there was not always enough staff to support them. We observed periods of time where there were clearly not enough staff to support people.

Staff lacked knowledge on how to report incidents of concern... Staff we spoke with were not clear on who experienced seizures, and what action staff should take.

Leaders were aware of rifts within the staff team but had been unable to address them positively. Staff did not feel well supported by senior managers.

One relative fed back that there was a lack of engaging activities for people living with dementia. Relatives raised that they did not feel that the environment was meaningful or engaging.
