"Outstanding leadership and a family-like culture with high staff morale, although as a new home there is no long track record of staff retention yet."
Safe medicines practices were followed. Staff managed medicines well... The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty... robust analysis of incidents had led to service improvement measures.
Staff morale was high; one staff member told us, 'We are all heading in the same direction; it’s not like work. We are more like a family.' The company’s care ethos is ‘Ohana’, a Hawaiian word meaning extended family.
There were enough staff to meet people's needs... relatives: 'There are always plenty of staff around; I can be alone in my room, but they will come past regularly and check I am ok'
Staff felt well trained and invested in. There was a trained dementia specialist in the service and face to face training with a bespoke dementia trainer had been sourced. Staff could reference ‘care champion’ leads for specific areas.
The service was outstandingly well-led by a compassionate, pro-active manager, assisted by the whole staff team and fully supported by a strong senior management team, including the CEO, who was present during this assessment.
There is a valued activities team on site... cinema club, hobby afternoon, craft afternoon, dance fitness sessions... local school visited the service... knitting group; people in the home had pen pals... new electric vehicle for outings.
Staffing levels are good and recruitment is strong, but as a new home there is no long track record of staff retention or stability yet.
This is the first assessment for this newly registered service... opened in late 2023.
