Working at The Orchard

No proper activities programme or coordinator yet, just basic things like puzzles and crafts being set up, so the role is mostly routine care.

The registered manager was in the process of setting up and purchasing activities that could be accessed by anyone at The Orchard. For example, puzzles, books, art and crafts and board games.

Staffing is adequate with enough per shift, but recruitment missed interview questions and no details on retention or agency use.

Safe recruitment practices were in place... However, interview questions were missing. We found sufficient staffing levels were maintained.

Medication records sometimes miss reasons for giving as-needed meds or updating protocols after dose changes.

When people were administered 'as required' (PRN) medicine, staff had not always recorded the reason it had been given... One person's PRN protocol had not been updated when a change to the medicine dose had been made.
