"Approachable managers and a positive culture, although staffing lacks low turnover and extra time for unhurried one-on-one care."
There were robust processes in place to manage safeguarding incidents. We saw an example of an incident which had been reported... clear investigation and actions taken... Staff practice when administering medicines was safe.
Staff we spoke with had an exceptionally positive attitude towards the people they supported, their colleagues and the provider’s ethos... Staff told us they enjoyed working at the service and gave numerous examples of how the culture of the service had a very positive effect.
Staff we spoke with were happy with the staffing levels at the service. One staff member said, “ We have a higher number of staff in a morning to cover personal care. We have enough staff and the shift leads always support and can dip in and out - there was usually 5 on nights.”
Staff were supported with a structured induction... The training programme included training on all aspects of care and included autism awareness, NAPPI training, safeguarding adults and an introduction to epilepsy. Staff undertook regular refresher training to keep their knowledge updated.
Staff told us the managers at the service were approachable and open. One member of staff said, “Yes, the managers are very approachable and they would want things raised to them to make sure things are right.” Staff felt they were listened to by their managers and their ideas or concerns were taken seriously.
For some people the provider had used smart technology to assist them... a device known as a smart switch... The provider also supported people’s social experiences by holding a range of social activities at their hub. People attended different activities... We saw there was a program of events.
Staff say there are enough staff on shifts with good planning, but no details on low staff turnover or extra numbers for unhurried one-on-one care time.
