There was enough staff on duty to meet people's needs. Most staff told us they felt there was enough of them on duty. One member of staff said, 'I sometimes think we're pushed at times. So not always time to do the little extras.'
One member of staff said, 'I'm currently doing a work book on dementia. I've done a lot of training lately. [Provider] funds all our training and pays for us to attend.' Staff had regular supervision sessions.
Staff spoke highly of the registered manager. Comments included, '[Registered manager] is very approachable and fair. [They] roll their sleeves up and get stuck in if we need help.'
People had access to a range of stimulating activities. These included, keep fit, quizzes, baking, entertainers, regular choir visits, pet therapist, schoolchildren visits, sensory room and dementia therapy cat.
Staffing levels are enough most days but can feel stretched at times so no time for little extras like chats.
One member of staff said, 'I sometimes think we're pushed at times. So not always time to do the little extras.'
Some past issues with medicine storage temperatures too high and no written guidance on giving extra painkillers as needed.
In June and July of 2018 there were some occasions when the temperature was recorded as being over that recommended. There were no PRN protocols in place.
