Working at The Laurels Residential Home

Staffing is adequate most days with good retention but care staff say residents sometimes have to wait when they are helping someone else.

One staff member told us, "Sometimes we know we can't help two people at once and sometimes people have to wait, not overly long but I feel bad if I know I'm helping one person and the buzzer is going."

Training covers the basics with regular supervision but some key courses like moving people safely were overdue for staff.

The training matrix identified moving and handling training was overdue for some staff but this had been booked.

There is a good range of everyday activities with a coordinator but nothing special or innovative to make the job more varied.

People had access to a large range of individual and group activities... observed bingo... quiz... trips to local stately homes, a vintage tea party, a garden centre.
