"Good training and regular supervisions support staff well, but shortages leave everyone rushed and leadership feels unsettled with the manager leaving."
The service did not always work well with people to understand and manage risks... some care plans did not contain enough detail about how staff use people's hoist slings. And some daily records did not contain enough information... we found hoist slings which were shared between people.
However, not all staff felt comfortable to report concerns to the management team. A staff member said, “I don’t feel confident things would be done if I reported a safeguarding concern.”
Safe and effective staffing Score:2 The service did not always make sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff. Most people, staff and partners told us more staff were needed.
Staff were recruited safely and received an induction and regular supervisions. Staff were trained in a range of subjects to support them to carry out their roles effectively and observations of staff practice were in place.
At the time of our assessment the registered manager was due to leave the service. The provider had recruited a new manager who was in the process of completing their induction. We received mixed feedback from people and staff regarding the leadership and management of the service.
Activities co-ordinators were in place, and we observed some activities taking place on the day of our assessment, such as therapy dogs and exercises. However, most people and relatives told us more staff were needed and there was a lack of stimulation and activities.
Not enough staff so you and your colleagues are always rushed and residents have to wait for help like going to the toilet.
Most people, staff and partners told us more staff were needed. Some people told us they had to wait for support... “I asked ages ago to go to the toilet”... “there’s not enough staff, especially when people need 2 staff to support them.”
No stable manager in place right now with lots of changes so leadership feels unsettled and unclear.

Gaps in safety records and equipment like shared hoist slings mean you have to be extra careful to avoid risks.
