The provider had a positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events.
Staff we spoke with were happy to work at The Heathers and told us they thought the provider was trying to improve the care there.
A staff member said, “There can be staffing shortages, especially when the home is full, which can increase the workload. Staff are often required to cover multiple duties, including cooking, cleaning, laundry and care responsibilities.”
While staff had basic hygiene training, they lacked specific training in preparing nutritious diets, diabetes awareness and dysphagia. The provider told us staff had training previously, but not all records were available.
Staff had not always received formal supervision. Some staff said they had not had formal supervisions with the new registered manager; however, they felt they knew the senior team well to talk to if they had concerns.
Activities that people enjoyed were provided by a dedicated activities coordinator who worked with people to ensure a full program each week. Posters in the hall showed games, exercises and arts and crafts which people enjoyed.
