Risks to people were safely monitored and managed and regularly reviewed. Medicines were managed safely. People were protected from the risk of the spread of infection.
Staff were positive about the support provided by the management team and their peers. Staff told us they felt supported by the management team and by each other.
The service did not use agency staff and had a consistent team of staff. A member of staff told us, 'There are no staffing issues, we have sufficient staff to meet people's needs'.
Staff had completed training that was relevant to the needs of people they supported. For example, staff had completed training in epilepsy and using the hoist. One member of staff told us, 'There is masses of training'.
Quality assurance processes at the home required further development. A quality assurance and audit system was in place but some aspects of record keeping and the audit system needed to be improved.
People were supported with a range of activities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We saw staff playing computer games, supporting drawing whilst listening to music, making Christmas cards, and going to a pub.
The manager is approachable but quality checks and audits need improving, so gaps in care plans and records are not always spotted.
Quality assurance processes at the home required further development. Audits of care plans and risk assessments were completed but had not identified that for one person, there needed to be clear written guidelines on the use of equipment.
