"Staff feel supported by a good manager with varied activities, but safety risks from poor fire precautions and inconsistent staffing hold it back."
The service was in breach of legal regulation in relation to risk management. During the inspection we identified concerns relating to fire safety that placed people at risk.
Staff felt supported and were treated equally. Most staff felt supported by management. Comments included, 'I have had lots of support from [registered manager]' and '[Registered manager] is a good manager'.
Most people felt there was enough staff to meet their needs. However, 1 person told us, 'I sometimes have to wait a while when I ring the bell.' A relative also told us, 'Sometimes there are not enough staff, but I have found that there are more now than recently.'
Staff were positive about working at the service and the training they received; however records did not always evidence some staff had received appropriate training.
A series of checks and audits were completed, but these had not been effective in monitoring quality or driving improvement.
People had access to a varied activities programme. ... A number of people living within the home were from the local community. The service worked with the local community to meet the needs of the people living at the home. This included visits from the local school and church.
Not always enough staff so call bells take time to answer and activities get cancelled sometimes.
1 person told us, 'I sometimes have to wait a while when I ring the bell.' A relative also told us, 'Sometimes there are not enough staff'. People told us activities were available, although occasionally cancellations due to staffing.
Training records often do not prove staff have completed the required training.
records did not always evidence some staff had received appropriate training. At the time of the assessment the registered manager was putting a process in place to address the concerns.
Safety risks like poor accident analysis and incomplete risk assessments make care less safe.
we were not assured that this process ensured effective analysis of accidents and incidents... some lacked sufficient detail to guide staff in supporting specific health conditions.
