"Approachable leadership and a happy, longstanding team create a positive vibe, but uncertain staff retention and basic training without specialist courses hold it back."
Staff had received training in safeguarding. Staff demonstrated a good knowledge of safeguarding... Risks had been appropriately identified, assessed, monitored and reviewed. Medicines were managed safely.
Staff told us that morale was good and we saw this led to a happy environment for people to live in. There were several long-standing staff and newer staff told us it was a lovely team to join. One member of staff said, 'I'm never on my own, we all work together, it's a lovely team.'
We observed safe levels of staff to meet people's needs appropriately. The registered manager used a dependency tool to ensure enough staff were on each shift, this was flexible and reactive to people's changing needs.
Staff spoke positively about their training and support. They told us it gave them the skills and knowledge required to carry out their work. Staff supervisions were up to date and a clear timetable was in place to monitor these being completed.
The home was well-led by a registered manager who was visible and active throughout the inspection. The registered manager had an open-door policy, and people spoke about how approachable they are. Following feedback from staff, a dedicated time slot for them to come and discuss any concerns with the registered manager, had recently been implemented.
There were activities available during the morning and afternoon. We saw a full activities timetable which included trips out into the community and a weekly visit from the local church. We observed people enjoying a quiz and live entertainment during our visit.
Staffing levels meet needs safely with a tool to check shifts, but no details on low staff turnover or no agency workers.
