"Supportive management and positive team culture with varied activities, but poor staff deployment and medication record issues need fixing."
The provider made referrals to the local Safeguarding Adults team when there were concerns about people’s safety, however CQC were not informed about all incidents where safeguarding referrals had been made... pain patch rotation charts and patch body maps were not always completed in line with guidance.
Discussions with people identified members of staff worked well as a team. Comments from family members included, 'They are a good team; we all get on really well.' A member of staff told us, 'I really enjoy working at The Beeches Care Home and there is always support if needed.'
We observed, however, there were times where deployment of members of staff was not as effective as it could be. For example, throughout the morning of our inspection there were limited numbers of staff in the main lounge area and minimal engagement for people.
Members of staff accessed infection prevention and control (IPC) training and 3 members of staff had been trained as IPC champions. Members of staff had received training about end-of-life care. A member of staff told us, 'Yes I feel supported and I have supervisions and appraisals.'
The registered manager told us, 'I have an open-door policy for staff and they are aware I can be contacted whenever they need me. They all have my personal number... I am available on-call and have worked night shifts to cover to make the home safe.'
We saw evidence of a varied range of activities including regular exercise sessions, therapy pet visits, themed menus and food tasting... visits from a ventriloquist and a local indie band... The Activities Co-ordinator has made amazing contributions to the home.
Staff deployment not always right, leaving some areas short-staffed like the lounge in the morning and making busy days feel rushed.

Some medication records like pain patch charts not always properly filled in and not all abuse concerns reported to the care watchdog.
