One of the errors we looked at, had occurred twice, but no preventative measures were put in place... we saw that 2 people’s medicines were in cupboards or drawers but were not locked away.
Staff told us the management team were supportive, approachable and brilliant. Staff said they enjoyed their roles and in the main felt valued. One staff member said, You do feel you’re valued here as a person.
We received mixed feedback from people, their relatives and staff in relation to staffing levels. Some people told us they occasionally had to wait for staff to support them.
Staff received training and were supported in their roles with regular staff meetings and supervisions. Records showed staff had completed training; additional NVQ qualifications and champion roles available.
There was a strong management presence within the service, with additional support provided from the regional and quality teams. Staff told us they felt supported, and the management team were approachable and easy to talk to.
There was a range of activities available... minibus trips twice a month, walking club, games and outside entertainers... chair based keep fit class and we have 2 outings a month.
Staffing is adequate but sometimes you have to wait for help and there was agency use from staff sickness.
Some people told us they occasionally had to wait for staff to support them... recent staff sickness had resulted in the use of agency staff, but they said this had since improved.
Medication errors happened more than once without fixes at first and some meds were not locked away.
