The service was in breach of legal regulation in relation to people’s safe care and treatment. People’s environment was not always safe including significant fire safety risks... fire exit was obstructed... the same fire exit was blocked again.
Staff told us they could raise concerns and felt comfortable to do so. One staff member told us,”I feel I can talk to the manager, and they would help.” Staff generally worked well together. One staff member told us, “The team is good. We are very helpful to each other.”
There was not always enough staff to meet people’s needs. People told us they found staff very busy and felt the home was short staffed. One staff member told us, “If there was one thing, I could change it would be to have more staff.”
Staff received an induction and were provided with training... However, some staff told us they would benefit from additional training in supporting people with dementia or behaviours that may challenge. Staff did not always receive regular supervisions and appraisals.
There was a registered manager in place... staff spoke positively about them but governance systems had not always been effective as they did not identify some of the issues we found during this assessment.
There was a lack of engagement opportunities for people... One person told us, “It’s a bit boring in the afternoon. We play bingo, but not very often. It is my only complaint really, that there could be more to do.”
