Working at Stratton House

Staff received comprehensive training in safeguarding and had a good understanding of how to keep people safe... People’s risk assessments about care were person centred, proportionate and regularly reviewed with the person... Staff helped people understand about individual risks... promoted positive risk taking.

Staff told us: “I love coming to work every day. It’s a lovely group, the residents are lovely - a big family. We all help each other out or if we are having a tough day swap out'.

Staff received a comprehensive training programme tailored to people’s needs... Staff were invited to become training ‘champions’, where staff were offered further training in certain areas such as continence care, end of life care and safeguarding...

Staff spoke positively about the leadership of the service. One staff told us: “Management are supportive, if you have a problem. I would talk to the manager, [about concerns in care] I have raised something here and it was sorted out. I was listened to.”

People were supported to grow their own vegetables and herbs in a project called ‘Green Care’, which were to be used in the meals which were prepared. People were fully involved in the community of Stratton House. This includes being involved with their garden transformation, deciding which activities take place...
