"Visible and praised managers with a clear vision for quality care plus high staff morale in a warm atmosphere, but a serious infection control lapse with an unapproved COVID unit put residents at risk."
Due to a misunderstanding on the part of the provider, people living in the service were put at risk because in June 2021 the provider made a decision to move the previously approved Care Quality Commission (CQC) designated setting for COVID-19 positive people into a smaller setting. This five bedded setting did not meet the criteria for approval as it did not have sufficient infection prevention and control facilities.
Staff morale was high and the atmosphere in the service was warm, happy and supportive. The service had a welcoming and family orientated approach to care.
Staffing levels were consistent, and staff were confident they could meet people's needs. We observed that the service was calm, quiet and well organised.
Per 2019 comprehensive inspection: Staff had completed an induction and training programme. Additional training for staff and nurses had been completed so they understood how to care for people with specific medical needs. Staff had opportunity for support, supervision and appraisal.
There was a registered manager in post: people and staff spoke highly of them. Managers were a visible presence in the home and there was a clear organisational vision for providing high-quality care.
Per 2019 comprehensive inspection: People told us they were offered a wide variety of activities to take part in if they chose this. People enjoyed a range of outings and in-house activities. There was an activity worker spending one to one time with people.
The bosses used a small unapproved unit for COVID patients without enough infection prevention setup, putting residents at risk of spreading germs.

Staffing is adequate and keeps things calm, but nothing special with no details on low agency use or keeping staff long-term.
