"A stable staff team and positive culture where staff feel valued, but unsafe medicines management and ineffective governance hold it back."
Medicines were not always managed safely or administered as prescribed. The provider’s systems and processes were not effective in ensuring correct administration and accurate recording.
Staff felt valued by their leaders and their colleagues, which had a positive impact on the care they delivered to people. There was a good sense of teamwork and staff told us they worked well together to ensure people’s needs were met.
The home had a consistent staff team, which meant people received good continuity of care. The registered manager and several of the staff team had worked at the home for a number of years.
We observed that staff supported people safely and effectively during our visit, and staff confirmed they had attended training relevant to their roles. However the training record did not reflect this, which meant the provider was unable to demonstrate that staff had attended the training.
The provider’s quality monitoring and governance systems were not effective in identifying risk or areas where improvements were needed. Records were not always accurate or up to date, which meant the provider had limited assurances about safety and quality.
The provider employed staff to run 3 art and craft sessions a week and 2 exercise sessions a week. Although some people told us they enjoyed these sessions, others said they would like to see a greater variety of activities.
Medication records have gaps, missing signatures, and stock doesn't match, so giving meds feels unsafe and poorly checked.
The person’s medicines administration record (MAR) contained a number of gaps over previous weeks... Where handwritten entries had been made on MARs, these had not been double signed... Stock checks were not carried out regularly and balances were not routinely recorded, which meant the provider could not be sure medicines were being managed safely.
Training records are inaccurate and don't show what you've completed, even if you've done the sessions.
however the training record did not reflect this, which meant the provider was unable to demonstrate that staff had attended the training.
Only basic art, crafts, and exercise sessions, no outings or music so the job is mostly routine care.
employed staff to run 3 art and craft sessions a week and 2 exercise sessions a week... others said they would like to see a greater variety of activities and have opportunities to go on trips and outings... We don’t have music often enough, though; the TV is on most of the day.
