Staff demonstrated a good knowledge of safeguarding... Medicines were administered safely... however, accident and incidents lacked details and action plans... We found one incident which had not been appropriately recorded... or reported to CQC.
Staff spoke positively about working at Shandon House. They told us that they felt well supported by the registered managers and that the team worked well together. Comments included, “Yes no problems with staff, everyone helps each other, we have good teamwork.”
Staff rotas did not always indicate leadership available each shift... Recruitment processes were in place; however, these were not always robust. For example, staff who had returned to work... did not all have 2 independent references.
Mandatory training had been completed by staff which included: First aid, moving and handling, safeguarding... Staff had the opportunity to complete further training if they wished and 2 staff were also completing their level 5 management.
Governance and oversight by the registered managers needed to improve and was not robust across all areas, accident and incidents were not routinely analysed.
People spoke positively about the atmosphere in the home and were complimentary about the activities available... I can do exercise, games and tried crochet... We saw people... doing a quiz in the lounge.
