"Good specialist training and caring staff, but ineffective management checks and limited activities held it back."
People felt safe and were supported by staff who knew how to protect them from avoidable harm. People received their medication as prescribed... The premises looked visibly clean.
Relatives told us the staff were nice. One relative said, 'The staff are very kind.' Another relative told us, 'The staff are caring.' Staff told us they had been encouraged to give their views at staff meetings.
A relative told us, 'There are enough staff. If there has been a problem agency staff have been used. The same agency staff so they know the people.'
Some specialist training had been delivered to meet the individual needs of people who lived at the home. This included non-restraint orientated training... Staff had opportunities to discuss their training needs... during supervision. Staff also told us they had an annual appraisal.
Quality assurance systems, including audits and spot checks, had not always been effective in alerting the provider and registered manager that there had been shortfalls in service delivery.
Staff told us about activities that had been enjoyed by people. These included visiting local nature reserves, cafes, shops, and having a massage.
Managers missed some problems like poor record-keeping because their audits and checks were not thorough enough.
We identified some further issues during the inspection that had not been picked up by managerial observations or by in-house audits.
Staffing is adequate but they use agency staff sometimes to cover problems.
There are enough staff. If there has been a problem agency staff have been used.
Only basic outings to shops, cafes, parks and massages, no activities coordinator or special programmes.
