Improvements were needed in the administration of medicines prescribed to be given at a specific time or that required timed intervals between doses. For example, antibiotics are required to be administered at regular intervals... Staff did not receive regular individual supervision meetings to ensure they were providing safe, effective care. One staff member told us, “We have an appraisal once a year. We used to get supervisions, but we haven't had those for a while."
During our inspection we saw there were enough staff to meet people’s needs and keep them safe. Staff raised no concerns about staffing levels. One staff member commented, “I think staffing is good. We have 4 groups so you can spend more time with the residents getting them up. You don’t feel rushed."
The provider was not proactive in ensuring staff had the training and support they needed for their role and remained up to date with best practice guidance. One staff member told us, “Really, we are a dementia home, and we need much, much better training."
There was no registered manager at the time of our inspection. The provider had appointed a new manager who had previously been the registered manager at Sebright House Care Home and knew the service well.
At the time of our inspection there were limited meaningful activities to reflect people’s individual needs and preferences and promote their emotional and social wellbeing.
