There was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere; staff and people shared positive relationships. Staff said the registered manager was supportive.
Several of the staff had worked in the service for many years. The service was staffed to ensure staff were available when people needed them, with a flexible rota and prompt responses to requests.
Staff received training in safeguarding, medicines, behaviours that may be challenging, seizures, diabetes, dysphagia and dementia. New staff completed Care Certificate; supervisions included one-to-one, group and observations.
The registered manager was a visible presence in the service and people clearly knew them well. One staff member told us this was because the service was well-led and the registered manager was supportive.
People participated in art and crafts, watching music videos, shopping, lunch out, college courses, discos, swimming and trampolining.
Activities include outings, arts, crafts and community trips but no dedicated coordinator or specialist programmes to make the role more varied and fulfilling.
