The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development. Staff had undertaken training to support the needs of people who lived at the service. This included training in autism awareness which was in line with the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice. Staff were positive about the training they received.
The provider and manager were visible and accessible for staff to seek advice and guidance. Staff told us the provider and manager were fair, had an ‘open door’ policy and they created a positive working culture to drive continual learning and improvement.
People were supported to make choices about how they spent their time and had opportunities to pursue different activities. These included leisure activities, going to places of interest and the day centre.
The job is mostly routine personal care with basic outings and day centre visits, no activities coordinator or specialist programmes to add variety.
leisure activities, going to places of interest and the day centre.
Medication safety had issues like out-of-date creams and handwritten medicine charts not signed by two staff, even though fixed on the spot.
some creams did not have the date of opening or if they did were past their use by date. Some Medication Administration Records (MAR’s) were handwritten and were not countersigned by 2 staff as per the provider policy.
Staffing is adequate and consistent where possible, but nothing special like a long-serving team or details on low agency use.
The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff... Managers made sure people received care and support from the same staff where possible to maintain consistency.
