"Staff enjoy a supportive culture with enough staffing and suitable training, but medicines safety gaps and limited activities need improvement."
Medicines optimisation Score:2 The service did not always make sure that medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs, capacities and preferences.
All the staff members we spoke with enjoyed working at the care home and spoke warmly about the registered manager and how supportive they were.
There were enough staff on duty to meet people's needs. The service used a dependency tool to calculate the numbers of staff they needed.
Staff received suitable training to carry out their roles. The registered manager told us they would seek further training for staff about managing people’s skin needs.
Although leaders were passionate about delivering good care and were compassionate in how they supported people and their staff, systems in place to promote the culture and values of the service required improvements.
The service employed an activities coordinator. We observed some activities taking place such as board games and one to one chat, however improvements were required to ensure people could participate in meaningful and person-centred activities.
Medication safety has gaps like missing dates on creams and no guidance for some meds, so you can't always be sure it's fully safe.
where topical creams were stored in people’s rooms, this was not always risk assessed, and some did not contain ‘opened’ dates on their labels.
Recruitment files miss things like full references and DBS checks, which makes onboarding new team members risky.
further improvements were required around the quality of references received, management of health declarations and to ensure all DBS information was available in staff files.
Few activities like basic games and chats, so your shifts are mostly routine personal care with little variety.
One person told us, “There isn’t much to do although I did help with Halloween decorations.”
