"Staff receive regular training and supervision in an open culture, but staffing shortages and weak quality checks lead to rushed care and missed risks."
The service identified and assessed people's personal risks... However, not all risks were assessed and guidance on minimising known risks was not always clear and complete
There was an open and inclusive culture at the service. People, relatives and staff spoke positively of the management and the support they received
We received mixed feedback from relatives and staff around staffing levels... we witnessed a shortage of staff which impacted on people's mealtimes and activities... staff rushing when attending to people's needs
Staff received a comprehensive induction... Staff also received regular training in a wide range of areas... including dementia, diabetes, moving and handling... Staff received regular supervision and appraisal
Quality assurance systems were in place... however, existing quality assurance systems were not robust enough to identify the issues we found around risk management
Per 2017 comprehensive inspection: During our first visit, a few people received individual activity and exercise support... bingo, an animal quiz, and ball games... entertainer visiting every two to three weeks, themed day every six weeks
Managers quality checks are weak and did not spot risks or fix known issues like crowded lounges in time
Quality assurance systems were not robust enough to identify the issues we found around risk management... At the last inspection, we found the lounge areas were busy and crowded... no improvements had been made
Sometimes not enough staff so care staff have to rush and it affects mealtimes and activities
we witnessed a shortage of staff which impacted on people's mealtimes and activities. We also observed staff rushing when attending to people's needs
Risk assessments often miss details or are not done for some health problems like diabetes or infections, so unclear how to keep people safe
One person who had diabetes did not have a risk assessment... No risk assessment was in place for another person who had recurrent urinary tract infections... lack of clear and detailed guidance available to staff
