The service was exceptionally safe. People were protected by a strong and distinctive approach to safeguarding, including positive risk-taking to maximise their control over their lives. People were fully involved, and the provider was open and transparent when things went wrong.
There was a very positive culture within the service, built on mutual trust, respect and fondness between staff and people. Staff told us their opinions were valued and used as an opportunity to improve people's lives.
People were supported by a consistent staff team who knew them well. The operations director told us, 'The people we support are truly respected and valued as individuals. When our teams are seeing the results [of people achieving goals], they have been incredibly proud of their achievements and I believe this has continued to contribute to our very low attrition rate.'
Per 2018 comprehensive inspection: Staff had continued to receive training relevant to their role to support people they looked after. These included manual handling, safeguarding people, equality and diversity, infection control, and fire safety. Staff had also completed needs specific training on epilepsy, autism, challenging behaviour and physical interventions. Staff confirmed they had opportunities to meet with the manager to discuss their work, performance, training and development needs.
The leadership of the service was exceptional. The registered manager and the staff team had clear understanding of their roles and supporting people to achieve their goals and aims. One staff member told us, '[The registered manager] is one of the best managers I've ever had.'
Staff used any incident which occurred as an opportunity for learning... Staff worked in very close partnership with people to take positive risks which resulted in people trying new activities, acquiring new skills and growing in confidence. One person had a passion for music... staff supported the person... to attend a concert.
