"Staff feel supported in a positive culture with stable staffing and good training, but high manager turnover leads to unstable leadership."
In the last 6 months, the service has managed to reduce the number of serious injuries people living in the care home experienced due to falls and skin integrity [pressure wounds]... Staff were aware of the potential risks people might face and the steps they needed to take to prevent or safely manage them.
Managers and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Managers were visible, knowledgeable and supportive of staff, helping them develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally and fairly.
Recruiting more permanent staff to reduce the number of agency staff they used to cover staff shortages. Ensuring all staff received additional falls and pressure sore prevention and management training... a successful staff recruitment drive now meant the service was no longer reliant on agency staff who were not so familiar with people’s needs.
Staff were well-trained to meet people’s individual needs, in line with their choices and preferences and encouraged to continually improve in their role. Staff received a mixture of e-learning and in-person practical and theoretical training, which was routinely refreshed as frequently as staff required it including, competency-based assessments.
The service continues to experience higher than expected rates of manager turnover with it having 4 different managers being in day-to-day charge since 2020 with no one remaining for more than 12 months. This lack of a stable management has meant the service has not been consistently managed.
Per 2022 comprehensive inspection: The activities coordinator and the staff team offered people a wide range of activities to stimulate their minds, promote physical activity and provide entertainment. For example carpet bowling, daily exercises, flower arranging, skittles and reminiscence sessions.
No permanent registered manager in place, and high turnover of managers over past years making leadership unstable.
At the time of this inspection the service did not have a registered manager in post... The service continues to experience higher than expected rates of manager turnover with it having 4 different managers being in day-to-day charge since 2020
Past heavy reliance on agency staff who did not know residents well, though recent recruitment has reduced this.
The home used to be too reliant on agency staff who did not know my [family member] so well, but since they recently recruited lots of new staff this is no longer an issue
