"Some staff feel positive about the culture with limited activities, but no registered manager, training gaps and poor staffing support hold it back."
Breaches of Regulation 12 (Safe Care and Treatment), Regulation 13 (Safeguarding service users from abuse and improper treatment)... Staff responsible for the management and administration of medication were not suitably trained and competent... safeguarding processes failed to ensure people were always protected.
Some staff were positive about the culture of the service and told us it was a nice place to work. Staff told us they felt there were improvements to be made and that they did not always feel listened to. Some staff did not feel part of the team.
The provider did not ensure that people always received care and support from suitably trained and skilled staff putting them at risk from harm. Staff were not well supported... due to a lack of regular planned supervision and annual appraisal. Breach of Regulation 18 (Staffing).
The provider held a training matrix to record completion of mandatory and other training. However, this was not effective to ensure staff remained up to date as the matrix clearly showed gaps where this was required. Staff had not received sufficient training... for example, on a night shift the staff on duty had not completed fire or moving and handling training.
At the time of our assessment there was a manager in post but they had not commenced their application to register with the CQC as required. The service did not have a registered manager.
There were limited activities observed during the 3 days of assessment. There was no visible information to show any activities or enrichment... Staff told us, 'Residents do not really have much to do. We have a lovely lady doing activities, but she gets pulled away.'
No permanent manager in post, and leaders do not oversee issues well enough to fix them promptly.
At the time of our assessment there was a manager in post but they had not commenced their application to register with the CQC as required. The service did not have a registered manager.
Big gaps in mandatory training and no specialist courses for conditions like Parkinson's or epilepsy, plus no regular supervisions.
The provider held a training matrix... this was not effective to ensure staff remained up to date as the matrix clearly showed gaps... Staff had not received sufficient training to ensure they had the required skills... for example, 4 people were diagnosed with Parkinson’s and 3 people were diagnosed with epilepsy.
Hires people with no care experience and puts them on the floor after just two weeks shadowing, and some shifts leave staff feeling rushed.
The training side of things is not good, the manager takes people on with no experience in care, they get 2 weeks of shadowing and are left to get on with it... We are normally quite rushed off our feet and unable to talk to residents.
