"Staff feel supported by listening managers and positive changes, but agency nurse reliance and lack of activities coordinator hold it back."
People's health risks and care needs were assessed, and action taken to reduce risks to people. There were good arrangements in place for the ongoing monitoring and management of potential risks. People's medicines were managed safely.
We spoke with staff who told us, although there were lots of changes taking place, these were positive changes and they felt able to voice a view which both managers listened to and considered.
Managers confirmed during the inspection there were enough care staff in number to meet people's needs in a safe and timely way. Agency nurses were used where there were nursing vacancies.
Staff received on-going training relevant to their roles, so they had the knowledge to work safely. Staff were being supported to acquire new skills and knowledge.
Staff we spoke with felt positive about the changes taking place. Managers were listening to the feedback and suggestions they received when making changes to the service.
People were supported to take part in social activities which they enjoyed and which they had helped to choose. The home had been looking to recruit a new activities co-ordinator (previous co-ordinator had left three months prior).
Staffing is adequate but relies on agency nurses to cover nursing vacancies.
Agency nurses were used where there were nursing vacancies. Managers were focusing on a more local recruitment campaign for nurses.
Activities are basic and run by care staff without a full-time coordinator, so they clash with personal care duties.
The home had been looking to recruit a new activities co-ordinator (previous co-ordinator had left three months prior to the inspection). There is a schedule of activities, though carers cannot run activities at the same time as caring.
