The provider did not assess or manage the risk of infection. We observed some equipment was rusty and worn and could not be effectively cleaned. Some pressure relieving equipment was seen to be unclean with ripped protective covers.
Staff felt confident they could raise concerns without fear of blame. Staff told us they knew how important it was to be transparent and open when things had gone wrong.
Although some staff told us they were happy with the staffing levels, some staff explained that due to people’s increasing or varying needs, which could change daily, they could do with more staff to ensure people received the support they needed.
Staff were positive about the training they had received. Records showed staff had completed training in line with their roles which was up to date.
There were clear governance procedures in place however these had not always been effective. For example, records were not always completed, and this had not been highlighted in audits.
The registered manager told us there were activities available if people wanted to join them. We observed an activities board displayed in the dining room which gave people insight into what was on that day. Some people chose to go to luncheons at the local church and the registered manager told us they had summer fayres and barbecues.
