Improvements were needed to the management of people’s individual risks. Care plans and risk assessments... not all were up to date, person centred, and some lacked specific detail to manage risk.
Staff spoke of the vision... 'we are now a tight team. Values of the service is about continuity of care, I love working here, I nearly left last year but I am definitely staying now, good team to work with, supportive and knowledgeable.'
Staff told us, 'We lose a staff member in the afternoon, it would really help us if we had the 6th one...' and 'There aren’t enough staff at night, just 2 care staff and an RN... it would be really unsafe...'
Training was on going and the manager reviewed training monthly to ensure staff were up to date and completing the training. Staff had received relevant training in relation to their roles.
The manager was available and approachable to staff, people and families. The staff team said they felt valued and well supported in their roles, that communication had improved and, things had settled down.
Relatives told us, 'Activities are very good here, the activity person is lovely and engaging, some people do not actively join in, but they seem to enjoy being there.'
Staff say they are short staffed in the afternoons and at night now more people need nursing care and two staff to help them.
