Working at Oldham House

Medicines were managed safely. Staff who administered medicines had received training and had their competence checked annually. The registered manager investigated incidents, accidents and complaints to see if anything could be done differently and to learn from these events.

There was effective communication within the staff team and staff told us the team worked well together. Staff meetings, individual supervision meetings and the registered manager’s ‘open door’ approach provided staff with the opportunity to discuss how they were feeling at work.

The provider had systems to ensure training was kept up to date, and staff were supported through induction, supervision and ongoing development. gaps due to sickness or annual leave filled by staff working overtime or by agency staff.

New staff completed an induction programme, which included face to face and on-line mandatory training. Comments from staff about training included, “We have enough training and it’s in the right areas.”

Staff told us they received good support from the registered manager. The registered manager was supportive and approachable and concerned about staff well-being.

Each day an activity coordinator provided a range of different activities... we have artistes in, pet therapy, the schools come in regularly. We do keep fit, move and groove, board games and movies.
