"Staff praised excellent leadership and support, strong training and positive culture, although staff retention details are lacking."
The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. Lessons were learnt... robust systems and processes where incidents were investigated in a meaningful way... Where a recent medicine error had occurred, it had been highlighted immediately... lessons learned had been shared with all staff.
Staff consistently praised the support given to them by the registered manager. All staff we spoke to told us they felt they were treated fairly and equally. The provider had a shared vision, strategy and culture... regular team meetings that were used to discuss values and culture and provided staff with opportunities to raise concerns or give feedback.
People told us there were always enough staff to support them. Where unexpected staff absence occurred such as illness, there was a robust on call system for staff support. We saw evidence of the registered manager also covering shifts in an emergency. This helped reduce any need for agency staff and ensured people were supported by staff who knew their needs.
Staff were encouraged and supported to increase their skills and knowledge with personalised development plans. There was a comprehensive package which included nationally recognised qualification. We saw evidence of succession planning and carer progression. For example, one staff member we spoke with had been supported to become a senior care worker and had a self-development plan.
Staff consistently praised the support given to them by the registered manager and praised the improvement they had implemented since our last inspection. One staff member said, '[Registered Manager] is excellent, they achieved more in 2 weeks than previous managers had in 2 years and continue to do so.'
The home had a sensory room that supported people to lay on crash mats... sound beam machine... This had helped the person learn that force was not needed... reduction in periods of frustration whilst engaging with staff... improved their overall movement and co-ordination. People were supported to access sessions such as pet therapy. One person had requested support to interact with a pony.
Staffing is good with low agency use and enough people on shift but no details on long staff retention or extra hiring efforts beyond the basics.
