Medicines were not always managed safely. Whilst medicine records assured us residents were receiving their oral medicines as prescribed, we found documents to support the safe administration medicines were not always in place or up to date.
Staff had good working relationships with their peers and told us management were approachable. One staff member said “Management are approachable and easy to talk to, there is an open door policy.”
There were enough staff to meet people’s needs and ensure they were supported safely and appropriately.
Records reviewed demonstrated that medicated creams were being applied by care staff without the appropriate training and management staff confirmed this.
Whilst the registered manager carried out audits and checks; these had not identified the shortfalls we had found with safe medicines management.
An activities coordinator was employed full-time who planned 1-1 and group activities, links had been made within the community. We observed people accessing the community to take part in their chosen activities.
