"Staff felt valued and liked working there, but absent management, staffing shortages, and training gaps held it back."
Safeguarding concerns were referred to the local authority safeguarding team, however, actions to ensure people were kept safe were not taken promptly, resulting in people not always feeling safe and some experiencing harm
Staff we spoke with told us they liked working at North Bay House, and they felt that the provider valued them. However, we also received anonymous feedback from staff that they did not feel valued, and that they were unhappy in their roles
The service did not always have sufficient staffing levels to ensure people’s safety and well-being at all times. For example, we observed that on many occasions there were no staff in the communal areas
Staff had not completed all training relevant to their role to ensure they could meet people's care and treatment needs. For example, pressure area care, and dysphagia (swallowing problems)
Following the inspection the registered manager left their post. They lacked knowledge in multiple areas, including how to prioritise safe, high-quality, compassionate care
We observed people sat in various areas of the home for long periods, with no activity being offered. Records we reviewed showed that minimal activity was happening in the home on a day to day basis
No permanent manager in place after inspection, and leaders missed serious problems like safety risks
Following the inspection the registered manager left their post. They lacked knowledge in multiple areas

The staff are run-ragged. They do stop and chat now and then, but they’re always wanted elsewhere. We can wait as much as 15 minutes at night
Staff missing key training on skin care and swallowing problems, leaving gaps in safe care skills
