"Adequate staffing on shifts, but unsafe medicines management, poor oversight and lack of activities coordinator hold it back."
People did not always have their medicines administered safely or at the right times... The service was in breach of legal regulation in relation to the ways people’s medicines were managed and premises and equipment.
Feedback on learning culture was mixed; staff knew to escalate concerns to the registered manager, but we saw no evidence of this and any suggestions that were made by staff were not followed through.
Rotas showed there were adequate staff members on shift each day... care staff were also tasked with other duties, such as laundering clothes, aspects of cleaning and activities.
although there was evidence of regular training, one member of staff had been employed for a few months without completing training in all the necessary relevant training for their role. While there was evidence of supervisions and competency checks, these were not consistent.
The registered manager was visible and approachable but management had not identified many of the issues we found. Governance and oversight of the service needed significant improvement.
Feedback regarding activities from people we spoke with was mixed; there was no co-ordinator employed at the home to promote and engage people in activities.
Medication was not managed safely, with stock running out for days and wrong doses or storage sometimes.
One person was unable to have doses of two of their prescribed medicines for 5 and 6 days because they were out of stock... Medicines were not always stored at safe temperatures.
The manager misses serious care issues and does not act on staff suggestions or delegate tasks well.
management had not identified many of the issues we found... any suggestions that were made by staff were not followed through... reluctance for the registered manager to delegate tasks.
No activities coordinator means the role is mostly routine personal care with little variety or creativity.
there was no co-ordinator employed at the home to promote and engage people in activities... There was no activity worker on site and staff were busy dealing with care tasks.
