"Staff feel supported by a kind approachable manager with good training and supervision, although staffing lacks stable retention and activities have no dedicated coordinator."
The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment. We found significant improvements had been made at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of regulation. Staff understood their duty to protect people from abuse and knew how and when to report any concerns.
Staff were effectively supported to share their views through regular, meaningful supervision sessions. One staff member told us, “Things have been so much better since the new manager has been here. They are kind, understanding and approachable, I feel like I can go to them for anything that I need.”
People and their visitors told us there were enough staff, and their needs were responded to. Managers reviewed staffing levels regularly to make sure there were always enough on duty.
Staff had received relevant training to meet the range of people’s needs at the service. A staff member we spoke with told us they had been fully supported to progress with completing a higher level NVQ. Staff received training on how to support people when they became anxious or distressed.
People told us the new manager was kind and approachable. People felt that when they raised concerns, they were acted on to improve their care experience. The manager operated an open-door approach, being visible and available for people and staff.
People gave positive feedback about the support they received from staff and the activities which were offered for them. Such as ten pin bowling, the cinema, and days out. I am still involved in music therapy groups, organised by an external partner.
Staffing is adequate with enough people on all shifts, but no details on low staff turnover or minimal agency use.
People and their visitors told us there were enough staff across all shifts and feel they are trained well I have no concerns with any off the staff at the home.
Activities include outings, bowling, cinema and music therapy, but no dedicated coordinator or specialist innovative programmes.
I have taken part in the activities provided at the home. Such as ten pin bowling, the cinema, and days out. I am still involved in music therapy groups, organised by an external partner.
New manager is kind and approachable but still in process of registering with CQC, so leadership not fully established.
The provider had employed a new manager following our previous assessment. This manager was currently in the process of registering with the CQC.
