People were not always protected from the risk of harm or abuse. We observed a person with multiple visible unexplained bruising and staff had not completed any record of this and management were not aware. The provider had not always detected and controlled potential risks in the care environment. For example, not all doors were locked that stored high risk cleaning items.
Staff told us they felt supported. One staff member told us, “Yes, I have regular supervision and team meetings. I feel supported by management and teams.” “Teamwork is one of our strengths. We communicate well, share knowledge, and support each other during busy shifts.”
Staffing levels were sufficient to meets people’s care and support needs. The registered manager monitored staffing levels regularly and used a specific tool to assess the number of staff needed on each shift in line with people’s dependencies.
Staff had completed an induction when they first started. One staff member told us, “Yes, the induction was comprehensive. It included mandatory training such as moving and handling, safeguarding, fire safety, and shadowing experienced staff.” Staff had one to one supervision regularly.
The management team were visible, knowledgeable and supportive. Management had effective governance processes in place that identified risks.
There were monthly activity planners in place and people were encouraged to interact with each other. On the day of our visit there was an external company who visited, who supported people to do exercising.
